DC's National Portrait Gallery response

I want to live in a Albert Pinkham Ryder painting.

Like the Hudson River School painters, who I like the most, especially the ones at the NY Historical Society, the Ryder paintings seem to capture the mood of real nature the best. The viewer is in the weather.

I also strongly recommend you read the short story All Gold Canyon by Jack London. A short story in my top three.

I love the Hudson River School. What is most interesting, I think, is Thomas Cole's work.

During his exhibitions, he would have people look through little paper tubes at his artwork, as if through a telescope. When you do that, it blocks out the world around you and makes the painting look stunningly realistic and 3D.

Bring a little peice of paper to roll up the next time you go.
